Summer in Bateau Bay

December through February is peak beach season, with water temperatures reaching a balmy 23-24°C. Swim between the flags at Bateau Bay Beach, snorkel the rock pools at low tide, or kayak the calm waters of Toowoon Bay.

Summer evenings are perfect for sunset walks along the clifftops to Crackneck Lookout, followed by fish and chips on the beach. The Entrance comes alive with markets, live music and waterfront dining.

Autumn in Bateau Bay

March to May brings warm days, cooler evenings and golden light that makes the coastline glow. The crowds thin out, leaving the beaches blissfully quiet. Water temperatures remain comfortable through April at around 21-22°C.

Autumn is ideal for longer bushwalks through Wyrrabalong National Park, leisurely brunches at local cafes, and exploring the vintage shops and galleries of Long Jetty.

Winter in Bateau Bay

June to August is whale watching season, and there's no better vantage point than Crackneck Lookout. Humpback whales migrate north along the coast from June, with peak sightings in July. Daytime temperatures sit around a mild 16-18°C.

Rug up and enjoy hearty meals at local restaurants, explore the Australian Reptile Park, or take a round at Shelly Beach Golf Club without the summer wait times.

Spring in Bateau Bay

September to November brings wildflower season to Wyrrabalong National Park. The coastal heathlands erupt with colour — banksias, waratahs and Christmas bells line the walking tracks. Migrating whales pass southward from October.

Spring is arguably the best time to visit: mild 20-23°C days, wildflowers in bloom, whales still visible, and the beaches are beautifully uncrowded before the summer rush.
